We had a wonderful presentation and discussion on the economic importance and value of trails in District 2. Cedric Moffett, Parks and Recreation Planner, joined three other presenters including Dennis Holste from Orange County’s Economic Development Division, Patrick Panza from BikeWalk Central Florida, and Courtney Reynolds from the Board of Directors of the Florida Bicycle Association, to emphasize trails bring in dollars from trail users.

Moffett discussed the next steps for trail construction in District 2. Our district does have the most number of trails in Orange County.

Moffett updated the audience saying the Lake Apopka Connector Trail will open next year. This will take trail users from Magnolia Park to the West Orange Trail at the Clarcona Horse Park.

Holste said Winter Garden for example benefits financially by more than $60 million a year because of the West Orange Trail.

The West Orange Trail is one of our district’s unique features. From Welch and Rock Springs roads to Keene Rd. and points west, the trail runs through beautiful land and lush greenery in many places. On Sat., May 31st, we hope you’ll join in on the Fun Run/Bike/Walk and activate the West Orange Trail.
